When wind and rain begin to make outdoor parties impossible, it’s time to warm up by hosting a wine tasting party.
To review: First, choose a varietal. Next, choose foods that will work well with the wine. Then, send invitations out with varietal and food ideas for your guests to bring, and prepare for fun, because wine and food pairings with friends are a great way to learn more while socializing.
Among other food and wine pairing possibilities for Pinot Noir, it pairs beautifully with dishes featuring mushrooms.
Scott Calvert, a sommelier-turned-wine consultant says that “Mushrooms pair best with earthy wines,” Calvert advises, in explaining why he pairs [mushrooms] with…reds such as Burgundy, Nebbiolo, and Pinot Noir.”
In our example—a Pinot Noir tasting—each guest will bring a brown-bagged Pinot Noir (Sumner Vineyards Pinot Noir, could be one!) and a dish featuring mushrooms. They can go to your eVite page to RSVP and get ideas for recipes.
To create a warming welcome, make sure your glasses are sparkling, the sideboard is loaded with plates, napkins, and flatware, and that there’s a fire or candles lit.
