For February 14, here are 14 romantic ideas for wine lovers…
- Visit a few of your favorite wineries, and spend the day sipping and nibbling. End with reservations at a romantic restaurant.
- Toast the day with wines made for romance: Champagnes and Rosés (such as Sumner Vineyards Pinot Noir Rosé). Buy the best that you can afford…the day is worth it!
- Express your love by writing down all the different reasons you love them…each on an individual cork.
- Give your love a dozen bottles of red wine, rather than a dozen red roses…or perhaps both!
- Valentine’s Day traditionally features chocolate. How about wine-filled truffles?
- Have two champagne flutes etched with your names for a very special toast.
- Create a picnic by the fireplace, complete with comfortable pillows, your favorite finger foods, and of course a special wine.
- For people who love to cook, you can create a unique evening…in the kitchen…by deciding on the menu, and finding the wines and recipes to match.
- Create a wine-themed movie night and stock plenty of appetizers and wines to sip while watching. Ideas: French Kiss, A Good Year, Bottle Shock, Sideways.
- Buy the ingredients for an over-the-top cheese platter (above) to pair with a bottle (or two) of your favorite red wines.
- Make reservations at a B&B in your own town for a quick and easy romantic retreat. Make sure to have a bottle of wine waiting for your Valentine.
- Make up a basket filled with wine(s), bread, cheese, chocolate, strawberries (chocolate-dipped?), and glasses. Drive to a beautiful view an hour before sunset.
- Have a fondue+wine Valentine’s evening: one fondue with cheese, matched with red wine, one fondue with chocolate, matched with a port.
- Visit a local wine bar and while away the evening tasting wines and eating from the bar menu. Having a taxi pick you up and take you home again might be prudent, too!
