A Rainstorm Moves Into The Vineyards

The last rain that our vineyards received was around Christmas, but this morning a new storm arrived. Forecasters said it’s just the beginning of a sub-tropical weather system that is expected to arrive in force later in the day, with up to a half-inch per hour in the Hayfork Valley through Monday.

“It was a little slower start than anticipated but it is still on track to deliver pretty significant rainfall,” National Weather Service meteorologist Austin Cross said.

That’s a lot of water in a short period of time, and so creeks overflowing and there’s a real possibility of flash floods, rock slides, and washed-out roads for the next few days. And if that’s not enough, we’ll be getting wind gusts over 50 miles an hour. Combine that with the waterlogged soils, and that means trees will probably be coming down throughout our area.

What’s this mean to us? Stay inside, build up the wood stove, make sure we’ve got the candles and flashlight ready, and…relax. It’s the perfect weekend for hot drinks, a kettle of stew, and a good book (or two).

Stay safe, wherever you are, we’ll check back in on Monday!
