Pairing Rosé With Thanksgiving Dishes

Posted By Don Sumner on Nov 10, 2014 |

Thanksgiving is almost here, and we can make a start on the feast by selecting wines that complement—without overpowering—traditional American fare. Turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and cranberries all pair beautifully with Sumner Vineyards Pinot Noir Rosé: it is crisp, slightly acidic, fruity, colorful, and festive…a perfect culinary match for this holiday.

Our Oliva Vineyard provides us with all the fruit for this lively wine, which is created entirely of Pinot Noir grapes. This wine displays heady floral aromas, featuring apricot blossoms, while flavors of wild mountain strawberries, stone fruits, and mint notes tease the palate. Serve it chilled, and perhaps have some sparkling water-cranberry juice (also blush-colored) for non-drinkers.

Julien Fayard, a Napa winemaker who grew up in Provencal town of Toulon, knows all about rosés. “Dry Rosé is a gastronomical wine. It’s a perfect pairing for Thanksgiving as it is a refreshing contrast to the warm, rich, and heavy dishes. Rosé is a palate cleanser and an extremely versatile wine that pairs with the mosaic of flavors on the table.” Rosés, by the way, outsell white wines throughout France.

Save the heavier wines for another day, and think pink this Thanksgiving. The pairing of a rosé with your holiday meal will strike the perfect note.
